Epson’s new M-G355 IMU brings SIL1 functional safety to industrial applications

Epson has started volume production of its new inertial measurement unit (IMU) M-G355QDG0 (“M-G355”), the company’s first IMU certified to IEC 61508 SIL1 functional safety standards.

IMUs are used to measure motion, rotation, and acceleration in advanced applications. Since their first launch in 2011, Epson’s sensors have built a strong reputation for precision and reliability – in areas ranging from precision agriculture and satellites to camera and antenna stabilization.

With the M-G355, Epson takes the next step. By meeting international standards for functional safety, this product can be used in even more industrial applications where stability, reliability, and safety are critical.
