When customers at SAGA Components need answers on the spot, there's a good chance they end up talking to Lennart Mäkinen. With a career in the industry stretching back to 2000, he's the kind of colleague who can trace a component's history — and often its replacement — from memory.
Lennart's roots go back to Kvartselektronik AB (KVE), the crystal and frequency-control specialist that eventually grew into today's SAGA Components. He joined the sales side in 2017, moved into Teknisk produktchef, and has stayed close to the technical side of the business ever since — now as Senior Technical Sales Engineer, though he's quick to point out he's still very much a salesperson too.
Two and a half decades in, he's watched the buying process itself change more than the components.
"The main changes on the market are designers often using online shopping to source samples instead of asking expertise to decide what to use. That creates challenges in finding replacements when it's time for series production," Lennart says.
Ask around the office who to loop in on a tricky technical question, and Lennart's name comes up fast.
"Customers can ask technical questions in a meeting and get the answer on the spot. Usually I don't need to escalate it — I've got enough knowledge in the toolbox already," Lennart says.
Away from work, Lennart likes to unwind on long motorcycle rides — no particular destination required. He also keeps hens, and it turns out there's more overlap with his day job than you'd expect.
"They teach me to focus on what matters. Unfortunately that also means I'm easily distracted — something new in view might just be more important," he laughs.
